Abbeyleix Bog committee are seeking local volunteers to help in the big fight this year which takes place on 31st Jan. Rhododendrons are a problem species in many parts of the country and as such they need to be “Taken out”.
If you have experience in gardening and/or fighting then Abbeyleix Bog committee warmly welcome you to a fun fill afternoon.

‘Rhododendron Bashing’ – Conservation Work Group on Abbeyleix Bog – Saturday, 31 January 2015. Under guidance of Groundwork, a voluntary organisation who are doing trojan work on invasive species in Ireland, together with Irish Wildlife Trust (Laois/Offaly), we will sweep the area along the old railway track – remove the saplings and small, manageable plants and map the big cluster for follow up intervention later.
